when we hesitated

I cannot have you wholly
For I fear there isn't space
To house your Self inside me
Without my Self displaced
And so to have you wholly
My Self would then be shed
And left unto the mercy
Of your vacancy instead
And should you not accept me
My Self would go astray
In search of proper shelter
Where it won't be turned away
And should no person satisfy
That dire and desperate need
My fragile Self will wander lost
And finally concede
So I cannot have you wholly
If you will have me not
I, a vessel of resentment
And you, a vacant lot.
